2022 NBA Draft - Chet Holmgreen

As many NBA fans are aware, Chet Holmgren is the Second pick of this years NBA draft (2022-23).

He got drafted by Oklahoma Thunder, after his successful college season at Gonzaga. He is one of

the top prospects in the draft, he stands at a very tall 7"1, he plays the forward position, and center

position, and he is 20 years old with a very high ceiling.

In todays blog, I will be analyzing Chet Holmgren's offensive pros/cons, and Chet's defensive

pros/cons. Additionally, I will be analyzing how good he is overall, and his fit on the Thunders players

system. This is a continuation of the 2022 NBA Draft series, where I made a similar report about Paolo

Banchero, the #1 pick of this years draft

Chet Holmgren - #2 Pick of the 2022 NBA Draft

About Chet:

Currently, Chet is 20 years old (Born in Minnesota, May 1st, 2001). Although, he may be very tall,

Chet considers himself to be position less. He is famous for crossing up the great Stephen curry in a

game, when Chet was a teen and a junior attending Minnesota Academy.

In high school, he was dominant. He averaged, 20.8 PPG, 12.6 RPG, 4.7 BPG, AND 4.4 APG,

shooting nearly 70% from the field.

Chet averaged 14.1 PPG, 9.9 RPG, 1.9 APG, and he averaged an amazingly efficient 61% FG, at

Gonzaga in 2021. His most noticeable achievement is that he placed first in the RCSI Top 100. After

his massive clout, hype, and his dominating seasons in high school and college, he took the NBA world

by storm and several NBA Draft scouts projected him to be #1 in this years draft.

Offense Pros and Cons:

PROSCONS
- Extremely skilled frontcourt player that can start offense at every level on the floor- Has a lack of strength in offensive paint
- fluid shot motion and quick release allows him to dominate in the pick and pop game. - Not as fast as an athletic forward or center
- Good on and off baller
 - efficient free throw shooter (for a center)
- Elite Fade away jumper makes him un guardable when shooting
- 7'1 tall, and 7'6 wingspan makes up for his lack of strength.

Defensive: PROS AND CONS

PROSCONS
- His size and wingspan allow him to virtually block every shot from any opponent- Lack of strength will result in him getting pushed around in the paint
- Elite interior defender due to his timing in the post
- Tremendous Lateral Footwork that allows him to alter any shot and guard any position
- Good IQ and feel on the Defensive floor

Overall:

Chet Holmgren is an excellent player, that has basically zero holes in his game. He has length and skill

which allows him to defend the interior against all positions consistently, he is a good rebounder, and

he can score on anyone at all three levels. Additionally, his jumpshot is fluid which makes his fade

away and shooting un guardable. Lastly, he has great IQ and he makes the right decisions on the court

which impacts his team positively on the offensive and defensive floor. If he is able to put on some

muscle and strength, he will be like a combination of Anthony Davis, and a 2 way player.

Chet's fit on OKC:

Chet Holmgren placing #2 in the NBA Draft means that he will be expected to make an impact on the

OKC organization. He will be placed with other players on rebuilding OKC, where he will develop

alongside former rookie Josh Giddey, All star Caliber player Shai, and other immediate players like

Aleksej.

He will definitely develop well with Josh Giddey's playmaking and passing skills, and him and Aleksej

will develop well also because of their similar playing style and frame.

"In the days leading to the NBA draft, it was widely speculated Chet Holmgren wanted to land with the Oklahoma City Thunder over the Orlando Magic. Now that the pact is official, Holmgren expressed his excitement to join the organization."
